Travel Caribbean: Have a Safe & Adventurous Trip! |

At Camp Caribbean, we have already talked about some of the places you could visit and have the time of your life. While travelling to the Caribbean will be an adventure, it can become a misadventure if you aren’t cautious. There are some very important dos and don’ts that you must always adhere to. You could and should start reading guidebooks and popular travelogues to get some firsthand opinion about how you can make the most of the best places in the Caribbean. Beyond the opinions or firsthand experiences, there are some standard best practices. It may sound a little quaint to have best practices when you would be touring some paradisiacal beaches and islands, but you should always be safe than sorry. • You must dress right when you are travelling anywhere. The Caribbean is hot and humid, even during the relatively cooler months. Cotton is your best friend. Don’t take any fancy clothing, try not to opt for polyester or any blend of fabrics that you don’t really understand. Pure cotton or fabric that has at least 60% and optimally around 80% cotton will be ideal. • You need to pack light but don’t compromise on certain essentials while you travel to the Caribbean. The box of essentials should have a premium quality sunscreen, sunglasses that offer protection from ultraviolet rays, possibly a hat or cap, mosquito repellent, creams including moisturizer and other lotions that you may need should your skin feel irritated or be inflamed after exposure to the sun, sand and surf. • You should know the rules of the beaches where you would laze for hours. Even if you are just driving by and decide to spend some time on a beach, know the rules. Some beaches and islands are more lenient than others, especially when it comes to eating and swimming. A few rules are administrative while some are for your own good. • You would come across a lot of tropical growth in the Caribbean. You will find many Manchineel trees. Make sure you do not take refuge under this tree when it rains. This tree is poisonous. When you stand beneath it, and it rains, you can be certain that the toxins will drip and cause blisters on your skin. In densely populated and popular tourist places, you would find the Manchineel trees marked with clear warnings. • Don’t wear any jewellery when snorkelling or diving. You should not cause any damage to the coral reef during your underwater adventure.
